Lopar is considered the birthplace of Saint Marinus (born in the island of Rab), the founder of the eponymous republic.
The municipality is situated in the northeastern part of the Rab island. Close to its coast there are located the two little islands of Goli otok (Croatian Alcatraz) and Sveti Grgur.

A short walk from Lopar there are other sandy beaches Dubac,Sturic,Livacna and some of them are nudist beaches Sahara, Ciganka and Stolac being the most beautiful and popular.
Lopar’s long sandy Paradise Beach (Rajska plaza) is one of the most famous beaches on the Adriatic.
Crystal clear sea water can go up to 28C in the Summer months.
Beach is perfect for children, inferior swimmers and elderly people.
Lopar is a paradise for the lovers of outdoor activities – it is covered in a net of roads, walking and biking paths passing by the beautiful beaches, entering the deep forest, leading through the stone canyons and labyrinth of sand dunes.
